Targets set for IT Department

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has been given targets by the Income Tax Department. The Board has been told to bring in new tax assesses using technical and human intelligence. It has also been told to identify under reporting taxpayers and make amends. 

The IT Department has 18 regions across the country. Each region has been given a target of its own. Pune is the region with the highest target of 10.14 lakh new assesses. States of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana have been assigned 9.30 lakh new taxpayers. Andhra Pradesh and Telengana will have to bring in 7.93 lakh new assesses; Gujarat with 7.86 lakh new payers; Tamil Nadu over 7.64 lakh; West Bengal and Sikkim over 6.91 lakh; Mumbai region 6.23 lakh and the National Capital Region (NCR) 5.32 lakh new taxpayers.
