Unprecedented steep fall in Jasmine Prices - Rs. 10/- per kg!

The prices of the Madurai, Jasmine flower, have been reducing since the last few months.
Just 2 months ago, Jasmine was selling at Rs. 800/- to Rs. 1000/- per kg. However, the prices have started reducing steeply since the last month.
As a peak of this price fall, Jasmine was sold at Rs. 10/- per kg in the flower market at Madurai local area `Mattuthavani` yesterday, Sunday, 26th July.
15 tons of flowers are brought to Madurai flower market daily. Scent Companies buy 5 tons of these flowers for manufacturing of scents.
Since some scent companies declared holidays unexpectedly, large quantity of flowers remained unsold. Without any other recourse, these had to be sold at unprecedented low price of Rs. 10/- per kg. However, the public welcomed this and bought large quantities.
The price of jasmine in Madurai flower market last week was Rs. 400/- per kg.
