Don`t we all love a crispy, smooth potato curry to accompany a traditionally made Sambar rice? Or, how about a pleasing yellow colored Potato smash to go with a crispy Dhosa! That will be a feast, but this article is not about those lip-smacking dishes. This is about the health benefits of potatoes which most of us do not really know.

The vegetable also contains soda and potassium in large amounts. Even a very normal sized potato has got 3.2 gram protein content. It in fact contains higher amount of protein than in milk. Babies can be fed with smashed potato instead of milk which will let the baby sleep without hunger pangs. Smashed potato is also helpful in fighting against diseases such as scurvy.
Boiled potato can be smashed along with its skin. Eating this once in a day for one week will show significant recovery from scurvy. Starch contained in potato prevents accumulation of toxic substances in vessels in abdomen and stomach.
Those suffering with ulcer, stomach or intestine related ailments can grind raw potato that is reddish in color. This has to be consumed before half an hour of the meal time, once in a day. This will prevent accumulation of toxic liquid in the stomach.
Potato extract can be applied over bone joints as it will reduce swelling and control its severity. Heat the potato extract and add glycerin to it and fill it in a bottle. Apply this oil on the affected area once in two or three hours. This will show significant result in just one day.
Potato juice can be applied before going to bed. This will take away the wrinkles and fine lines. As it contains high amounts of potassium, it is good for heart patients and those suffering with blood pressure. Diabetics should however stay away from potatoes.
