The transport commission has decided to resume providing permit for autos the procedure which was halted six months ago across Tamil Nadu.
There are nearly 2.30 lakh autos in Tamil Nadu out of which 74,000 are in Chennai. In Karnataka, there are 1.70 lakh autos, 1.30 lakh in Andhra Pradesh, and 1 lakh in Kerala. Compared to other states, there are more number of autos in Tamil Nadu.
Case to provide auto permit:
As a move to reduce the total number of autos, RTO stopped providing auto permit in the month of December last year. Following this, cases were filed requesting provision of auto permit. Meeting this plea, auto permits are to be provided to eligible individuals alone. Hence, very soon, auto permits will be provided as per the new decision.
Speaking about this, officials at the RTO say the permit will be provided only to eligible individuals as per the new rule. This rule will benefit those who are waiting for job after completing their studies.
It was also said that businessmen who own multiple autos will not be preferred for providing permit. Instead, individual drivers will be given the same.
