Chennai Metro water and Sewerage System Board - Guidelines for following payment conditions

·         The consumer card has to be treated as Demand Notice under section 34,35, 44 and 47 of CMWSS Act 1978.

·         Water and Sewerage Tax is a statutory Levy and to be paid irrespective of Water and Sewerage Connections awaited or not and becomes due after 15 days from 1st April & 1st October for each half-year.

·         Flat rate Water and Sewerage charges should be paid half-yearly. Metered water charges should be paid every month.

·         For delayed payments, surcharge is collected @1.25% per month on recurring basis.

·         In case of dishonoured cheque, penal fees will be collected @ 1% of the cheque amount subject to a minimum of Rs. 300/- for each dishonoured cheque. Otherwise criminal action will be taken as per Negotiable Instrument Act 1938.

·         Consumers can pay at any of the cash counters in respect of any premises in Chennai, Metro Water Head Office, Are offices or Depot Offices.

·         Cheques/DDs must be drawn in favour of CMWSSB.  Cheques subject to realisation. Outstation cheques are not acceptable.

·         Consumers can make online payment through Visa/Mater Credit/Debit Cards/ net-banking through the website www.chennaimetrowater.com.

·         The Assessees must produce the revised Annual Value Order received from Corporation of Chennai within 30 days from the date of receipt of the order. Otherwise, surcharge will be levied after 1 month.

·         If the Annual Value is pending with Corporation of Chennai, Old Tax plus 50% of the difference between Old & revised Tax should be paid with a copy of the Appeal till the disposal of the Appeal.

·         No exemption is granted by the Board from the payment of Water and Sewerage Tax even though exempted by the Corporation of Chennai.

·         As per Section 62(2) of CMWSS Act, 1978, the Owner and the Occupier of the remises will be jointly and severally liable for payment of all sums due to the Board. The present owner of the properties is liable for making payment of taxes and charges unpaid by the previous owners.
