Indian Postal Department has decided to open more number of postal ATMs. At present, ATM facility has been provided at the head post offices in T.Nagar, Anna Road, Mylapore, St.Thomas Mount and Tambaram.
The department has now started distributing debit cards to savings account customers who maintain a minimum balance, recently reduced to Rs. 500.
During the first phase, the department plans to set up over 90 ATMs in the Tamil Nadu circle. Twenty of them will come up in the Chennai city region. This includes Ambattur, Avadi, Park Town, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur.
Meanwhile, the department is also adding more post offices in the core banking solutions (CBS) network. As on Thursday, nearly 173 post offices have been networked with CBS. This enables people to operate their account from any of the networked post offices.
