Hilton Hotels & Resorts opens first hotel in Chennai

Empee Group on Saturday unveiled its first five-star hotel `Hilton Chennai` that would be operated by UK based Hilton Hotels and Resorts.
The 204 room hotel, built on 42 grounds (one ground is approximately 2,400 square feet) of land by Empee group, was the first in the city which would be managed and operated by Hilton.
Empee Group has invested Rs 400 crore in the project in which 150 rooms would be added in the next phase, he told reporters here.
Speaking at the launch, M.P. Purushothaman, chairman of the Empee group, said the group made a humble beginning in the early seventies with a small restaurant in Chennai and had, over the years, spread its wings to several businesses, including distillery, brewery, hotels, power and construction. He was happy to see Hilton Chennai, a five star deluxe hotel, he said, adding that it was all set to become another landmark in the city.
