As per Siddha medicine, our daily food intake must be supplemented by ingredients like garlic, asafetida, pepper, cumin seeds, mint leaves, curry leaves, coriander, mustard, ginger, etc. Though we include all these ingredients in our daily cooking in parts in various dishes, the only recipe that has all of their goodness contained in one is Rasam.
Though Rasam is prepared in different varieties like Tamarind Rasam, Lemon Rasam, Pepper Rasam, Pineapple Rasam, Coriander Rasam, etc, all these ingredients as mentioned in Siddha medicine is mostly present in all varieties of Rasam. This can in fact be called as an Antidote. This balances the insufficiency of vitamins and minerals in our body.
In overseas nations, soup holds a vital place. This can be clearly told as a different form of Rasam. Both soup and Rasam have got the ability to fight against tiredness, fatigue, loss of appetite, distaste, flatulence, etc.
Siddha medicine follows food as the sole medicine. Rasam truly complies with this motto of Siddha.
Cumin seeds - They help in overcoming flatulence, relieves asthma trouble and phlegm in throat
Asafetida - This helps get rid of all stomach-related ailments. It prevents fits, and also stabilizes the mind and body
Coriander – This subsides fever and supports proper functioning of kidney. It also brings down the body temperature and helps get rid of dryness in tongue. It improves eye sight. It enhances the sexual relationship in the newly married couples.
Curry leaves - It makes your body firm and well built. It prevents indigestion, diabetes, and troubles with kidney. Curry leaves need to be chewed and taken in, instead of omitting it from the food.
Garlic – This helps fight against heart diseases, asthma, intestinal problems, kidney stones, liver troubles and lot more
Pepper – it helps fight against fever, nervous weakness, infertility, etc. This also reduces knee pain and headache as well
It`s advisable to add very less amount of tamarind.
