Lower price rates for pulses & palm-oil in ration shops extended by 1 more year

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa has ordered the extension of the current lower price rates of Bengal-gram, black-gram, and palm-oil sold by PDS (Public Distribution System) in ration shops to be extended by 1 more year.

A press report released by the Chief Minister informs that the price rates of pulses & cooking oil is higher in the open market shops, Bengal-gram, black-gram, and palm-oil are sold in the Fair Price Shops at much lower prices.

In these ration shops, Bengal-gram & black-gram are sold at Rs. 30/- per kg and palm-oil is sold at Rs. 25/- per litre.

The Chief Minister had ordered that the prices of Bengal-gram, black-gram, and palm-oil to be sold as per the above rates till 30th September, 2015.  However, the prices of these items have been going up steeply in the open market. Considering this aspect, Chief Minister has ordered the extension of the above price rates for these items to continue for another 1 year till 30th September, 2016.

As per this extension, Bengal-gram & black=-gram will be sold at Rs. 30/- only per kg. Palm-oil will be sold at Rs. 25/- per litre.

With this arrangement of PDS shops selling these items at much lower prices, Tamil Nadu government will incur an expense of Rs. 2000 Crores per year.
