The Department of the Central Ministry of Food has informed that following the sanction of the government to import 2000 tons of onion, the first consignment of 250 tons of onion has arrived in India.
A press release from the Central Ministry of Food informs that the balance quantity of 1750 tons of onion will arrive in India before the end of this week.
It is also informed that with this step, the price of onion is expected to come down throughout Tamil Nadu.
The press release also informs that 5000 tons of pulses are also being imported to keep the prices of pulses under control.
So far, 3223 tons of pulses have arrived through Chennai & Mumbai. The Ministry of Food informs that the balance quantity will also reach India before 20th October.
The ministry of Food expects the prices of essential commodities like onion and pulses will come down with the above imports.
