The Corporation of Chennai has approached BSNL to check out if making Chennai city a Wi-Fi enabled one is feasible. Cities like Bengaluru, Mysore and Kochi are already wireless cities. They will try out this system first in two areas in the city. If this system works, power consumption can decrease by 20%. To test the system, the Corporation will provide separate underground ducts to the TNEB.

An official said, The idea is to collect excess rainwater from streets and channel it to natural reservoirs and promote rainwater harvesting... (We) will encourage commercial establishments to set up solar panels to tap the renewable energy. We have also installed the maximum energy saving LED lights in the country.
