The Sri Lankan government will release 120 Indian fishermen. The news came from sources at Tamil Nadu`s Fishing Ministry. A formal announcement is expected on Thursday. However, officials at the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission have said that a few issues have to be sorted out before the release. The fishermen were arrested for trespass on Sri Lankan waters.

The last arrest was on Tuesday when 34 Indian fishermen were arrested. A total of 48 boats have been seized by Sri Lanka, an issue that has not yet been clarified. Sources say that to return the confiscated boats, a hefty fine may need to be paid. This poses as a great problem for the fishermen as each boat is believed to bring employment for at least 20 families.
