The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked parents to give their opinions and suggestion on several issues. The move is part of a project by the MHRD to develop the National Education Policy (NEP) 2016. Issues include change in school timings, the effectiveness of extra tuitions and the need for homework to improve learning.
Questionnaires have also been passed on to teachers to ask about their satisfaction with the no detention policy. According to this policy, no student will be detained in any class up to Std. VIII.
CBSE has asked all replies to be submitted by Nov. 9.
The move has been received positively by teachers and parents alike. A Chennai city school principal has said, The current system of six hour schooling would be enough as we need to give kids time for other activities too. An official from the Federation of Tamil Nadu Students Parents Welfare Association said, (We) welcome CBSE`s effort to get stakeholders views. Six hours of schooling would be adequate for a student. Schools should not encourage giving homework to kids.
