Polling for the 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu began on today morning with about 4.6 crore voters expected to decided the fate of 2,773 candidates.
All arrangements have been done for the polls. In Tamil Nadu nearly 2 lakh poll and security personnel are involving in poll related works.Polling will continue till 5 pm.
People came out in good numbers early in the morning and queued up before booths as polling began under the watchful eyes of security personnel who have been deployed in good strength.
Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar has warned of the Election Commission countermanding the polls if political parties indulged in malpractices.
As many as 9,500 polling booths will have web cameras to relay live the polling process to the central office here and in around 5,000 booths the polling process is being videographed.
Praveen Kumar said the voting percentage during the 2006 assembly elections was 70 percent; during the Lok Sabha polls in 2009 it was 73 percent.
