900 police deployed for surveillance during festive season

900 police have been deployed for surveillance during festive season in the places like T Nagar, Purasawalkam and Washermanpet areas.   
 
Even in normal occasions, shopping hubs like T Nagar Ranganathan Street, Usman Road, Purasawalkam, Washermanpet and Velacherry will be crowded. Now on the occasion of Deepavali, these places are overcrowded. Because of this the Chennai Police has strengthened its security. Everyday 560 policemen are on duty in T Nagar Ranganathan Street and Usman Road. In order to monitor these policemen, 2 Deputy Commissioners, 3 Assistant Commissioners, 5 inspectors and 20 sub inspectors have been pressed into service.  
 
Moreover 20 plain clothes crime branch cops on the rounds to nab the thieves. The additional cameras have been installed in the important junctions, including Pondy Bazaar, Kannadasan Statue junction, G N Chetty Road junction near Panagal Park, Thiagaraya Road Junction near Panagal Park, Venkatnarayana Road and every intersection around Panagal Park. Besides, the cameras were installed along the service roads on South Usman Road from Pothy`s and up-to T Nagar bus terminus. There is also a control room setup in Ranganathan Street. Public can make their complaint to the control room no 94981 00176. Moreover there are three monitor towers in three important places.
 
Similarly in Purasawalkam, 230 policemen have been deployed for security purposes. A deputy superintendent, an assistant commissioner, 8 inspectors and 15 sub inspectors will undertake the surveillance job. Similarly police security is also provided in Washermanpet.
