There were continuous heavy rains in Chennai for five hours from midnight. This resulted in heavy water logging. Even now there is heavy downpour of rain in many areas. Roads and streets are flooded with water. Because of this, there is heavy traffic problem. People going to office are put into great distress because traffic is moving in snail pace.
There is heavy water logging in some of the important roads in Tambaram, Pallavaram, St Thomas Mount, Guindy, Ashok Nagar, Kodambakkam, Mahalingapuram, Nungambakkam, Egmore, Purasawalkam, Ayyanavaram, Perambur, Otteri, Pulianthope, Vyasarpadi, Moolakadai, Sharma Nagar, Korukpettai, Manali, Madhavaram, Royapuram, Kasimedu and Parrys.
There is heavy water flooding in Konnur High Road in Ayyanavaram. The water is stagnated from Ayyanavaram to Otteri Coovum Bridge. This has resulted in heavy traffic congestion.
Since the railway tracks are also submerged in water, train traffic has also come to stand still. The railway bridge in Tambaram is also submerged in water. Because of this, the traffic has been suspended. The tracks between Tambaram and Madras Beach are flooded with waters. The result the EMUs are moving very slowly.
Two express trains towards Chennai are also stopped in different stations due to water clogging. There is also water clogging in Tiruvottiyur-Basin Bridge railway section. This has disrupted rail services in this section. The rail service between Chennai- Gummidipoondi sections will operate between Chennai and Ennore.
