Chennai represents Venice, water stagnation prevalent across city

Much of Chennai complained of water stagnation on Sunday. The staff of the Chennai Corporation tried to clear water in more than 300 localities in the city. 

1900 people were rescued from the houses on Sunday. They were given shelter in safer locations. The 81 Amma Canteens supplied food packets to residents, along with 7 community kitchens and 5 community halls. 

Of the total 490 localities with reported water stagnation, only 186 localities were able to be helped. Medical camps were held at 98 localities, which saw over 12000 people in attendance. The Corporation put to work over 23000 people who tried to take out excessive water from places like Vysarpadi, Madipakkam, Velachery, Adyar, Korattur, Villivakkam, Arumbakkam, Sholinganallur, Perungudi, Manali, Kodungaiyur, Porur, Chintadripet, Valasaravakkam, Pazhavanthangal and Alandur. Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kapur and Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy visited some places to take stock of the situation. 

In places like Basin Bridge, Adyar and Ambattur, residents were rescued with the help of boats.
