Rains affect government hospitals in the city

The Chromepet Government Hospital faced problems caused by the rains on Sunday. 3 feet of water seeped into the hospital. Patients and their families had to jump onto any bed available and had to keep their belongings along with them. The hospital attends to villages in the Tambaram taluk. 

A doctor at the hospital said, Water started seeping in on Sunday morning. Some of the patients had to be shifted. Shortage of sanitary workers forced medical staff to pitch in with the draining operation. We also used a pump brought the situation under control by noon.

An official from the office of the Director of Medical Education said that this was the case in many government offices in the city. Water was being pumped out every time there was a lull in the rain. We have asked all the hospital deans to closely monitor the situation to avoid waterlogging on the premises… PWD engineers have been asked to ensure round-the-clock power supply to hospitals, and to safeguard against snapped power lines, she said. 

Doctors at government hospitals have said that there have been an increase of cases relating to skids and falls. Emergency medical camps have been set up outside the four government hospitals - Government General Hospital, Stanley Medical College and Hospital, Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital and Government Royapettah Hospital.
