Since the North East Monsoon rains have intensified in Tamil Nadu, there is good rainfall in all the parts of Tamil Nadu. Because of this the lakes and dams are fastly filling up day by day. The main lakes like Poondi, Sholavaram, Puzhal and Chembarapakkam which Chennaites depend for drinking water are filling up like never before.

An official of the Metro Water while speaking said that there is good rainfall in the catchment areas of these lakes. As per yesterday status, there was rainfall of 12mm in Poondi, 30 mm in Sholavaram,  44 mm in Red Hills, 17 mm in Chembarapakkam and 34 mm in Veeranam. Because of this, there is good inflow of water in these lakes.   Especially Poondi Lake received 3096 cubic feet water and also Sholavaram Lake received 238 cubic feet water. Similarly the lakes Chembarapakkam and Veeranam received 500 cubic feet and 785 cubic feet water respectively.

On the whole there is 82.98% water in Puzhal lake, 67.31% water in Sholavaram lake, 84.61% water in Red Hills, 85.76% water in Chembarapakkam lake. On an average there is 80% stock of water. Now sufficient drinking water is being supplied. In view of the foregoing there will be no dearth of drinking water for this year. Similarly the ground water level in Chennai and suburbs have risen.
