Expert researchers claim various reasons for the heavy downpour in Chennai that has put the entire city in huge sorrow! The director of Indian science and environmental centre, Sunitha Narayanan says climatic changes has given rise to excessive rainfall in a few places across the city. They claim this change in climate as the reason for heavy shower. Such changes in climate is taking place in various cities across India.
Necessary steps for preserving water resources in the step are not taken. Particularly, cities including Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, and Srinagar have not taken enough care to preserve such water reserves. The director adds that he had already stated about this.
In general, the water that flows out of ponds and lakes and those from rivers and streams have got natural ways to the sea. Whenever there is a flood, the water reaches the sea and hence there will be no threat of flood.
However, in cities like Chennai, these natural routes are blocked by construction of buildings along these water bodies. Hence, there is a blockage for the water to flow to the sea. This is the ultimate reason for water stagnation and flood in the city.
