Posted on: 07/Dec/2015 12:20:19 PM
The number of supply trucks carrying vegetables to the city have reduced from 320 to 150. This will result in 50 percent lesser supply. Traders have said that although this may be the case with vegetables, availability of pulses is as per the norm. They have also said that prices will remain stable.

A trader from Koyambedu has said that regular supply will be restored from Dec. 15. Local varieties of brinjal, ladies finger and bitter gourd are in short supply as they usually come from flood affected areas of Kancheepuram, Villupuram and Tiruvallur. Drumstick is procured from Mumbai. One drumstick normally costs about Rs. 2, now it costs Rs. 5.

Vegetables that are supplied by Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are in full supply. As on Sunday, the prices of onions was Rs. 50 - 60 per kg; tomato was Rs. 40 - 50 per kg; potato at Rs. 20 per kg; beetroot at Rs. 30 per kg and carrot at Rs. 50 per kg.
