As the works got interrupted in the city due to heavy showers and flood, few of the workers at Chennai Metro Rail have got back to their hometowns. There were rumors that workers have gone missing. Following this, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited was inquired about these missing workers.
Workers are not reachable!
The phone lines were down and hence workers were not reachable. They have all boarded trains to their hometowns as the underground works had got disrupted. They will return very soon, added an official.
They are all safe and get back to work soon. Metro construction work along the 45km stretch has employed over 60,000 workers. Out of 45km, 24km are underground and the rest are elevated.
Due to incessant rainfall last week, earlier this month, most of the underground stations got waterlogged. The water from these stations is pumped out, however due to flooding at tunnels and stations, works are interrupted in a few areas. This will take more time to get back to normal state of full swing works.
Waterlogged stations
In a few areas, the works have started, but other areas like Saidapet will take a while, said an official. The Saidapet station is found fully flooded due to Adyar River. Water from here is pumped out using 100-150 HP motors.
