There are some remaining works pending in CMRL`s Chennai DMS and May Day Park corridor. Keeping in mind the prices of spare parts and construction materials, CMRL had floated fresh tenders adjusting the amount of project evaluation rating. The work will commence during the month of March.
Chennai Metro Rail, estimated to cost Rs. 14,600 crore, sprawls over 45 km of the city. Of this, 24 km will be underground and the remaining 21 km elevated. The contractor who was doing the work between Saidapet and May Day Park was suddenly ousted out. Because of this no work took place for the last few months. To complete the unfinished works, selection for new contractors were underway.
L&T was selected for the works connected between Saidapet and DMS. Works in this stretch are going on. But the contractor is yet to be finalized for the pending works between DMS and May Day Park. Now fresh tenders have been floated keeping in mind the present cost.
An official of metro rail mentioned, L & T firm has been selected for the works between Saidapet and DMS. This is done at a cost of Rs 640 Crores. Many firms are not showing interest in the works between DMS and May Day Park because they say that the project evaluation rating is less. Now we have increased this from Rs 480 Crores to Rs 600 Crores. For tunneling and construction of railway stations other firms will be selected. Tenders have been floated. The tenders will be finalized by February and the works will commence during the last week of March. We have decided to complete all the works by 2017.
