Works are being carried out to set up ATMs and micro ATMS in 1.25 lakh post offices present across the country, according to sources from the central government as stated at the Lok Sabha.
When questions were raised about the difficulties faced by the public in accessing ATMs as they are present at long distances, discussions took place about setting up ATMs inside post offices.
Clarifying the details, the Minister of state for finance, Jayanth Sinka said that temporary employees are deployed at post offices where there is not enough resources to carry out Bank Mitra works. Answering to questions raised about vacancies with public sector banks, he said over 60,000 employees are to be recruited to fill the vacant positions and the works are presently on the go. In these public sector banks, between years 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2015-16, the total number vacant positions were 38,254, 38,170 and 21,500 respectively. The total numbers of recruits done here in these years were 35,549, 30,359 and 24,133 respectively.
