The tenure of the present 14th Tamil Nadu State Assembly comes to an end on 23rd May.
Since there is only four months remaining, the election commission is gearing up for the elections. Election officers advisory meeting with regard to the conduct of elections will take place during the 2nd week of January. Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi, election commissioners A K Jothi and Om Prakash Raava will discuss about the forthcoming elections with Tamil Nadu officials.
The discussion will be with regarding to the number of voting machines and security arrangements. The final publication of the election rolls will be released throughout Tamil Nadu on January 20, 2016. Names of the voters who have attained the age of 18 years as on 1st January are included in this list.
As on date there are 8 thousand electronic voting machines in Tamil Nadu. Moreover another 70 thousand electronic machines are to be brought from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Bihar states.
After discussing the above matters, the election commission will decide about the date of elections.
Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi will announce the date of elections on 28th February.
