Authorities to form teams in bid to once again correct auto tariffs

Traffic police and the State Transport Authority have said the they will launch a drive to ensure that auto rickshaws use the meter. This will follow a series of unsuccessful initiatives to correct the auto tariffs  in the city.

Officials say that they will form around 25 teams for the purpose. `We are now forming teams in coordination with the traffic police to punish auto drivers who do not follow the meter`, they say. `We have made a list of teams in each RTO. They will be coordinating with police officers for maximum impact. We are in the process of finalising the new teams and their locations. Once it is ready , it will be circulated to all RTOs and the crackdown will begin immediately. Each RTO can send only two road inspectors to the field. And they cannot be on the road the whole day as they have to come back to office to do paperwork. Police officers can start patrolling as early as 7am and go on till 11pm. We do not have that option.`
