K.K. Nagar will soon be the first neighbourhood in the city to have cycling tracks. Work on the tracks is expected to be completed by March this year. The track will span 3.8 kms and cover P. T. Rajan Salai, Lakshman Swamy Salai and Ramaswamy Salai.
Officials from the Chennai Corporation have said that this will help students who go to the 8 schools around these areas. They say that the project costs Rs. 3 crore. Roads were widened and cement concrete carriageway was laid. The tracks have been built as per Indian Roads Congress standards. Lakshman Swamy Salai and Ramaswamy Salai will become one way roads after the completion of the tracks.
There was delay in the project due to miscommunications between departments. An official said, The December floods further delayed the project. But now we want to complete the project before the elections... (The Corporation is) also laying underground ducts for electricity and telephone cables to prevent unnecessary cuts.
