Amma Call Centre to address grievances

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha has launched the Amma Call Centre that will hear and address people`s grievances. The service was launched from the Secretariat via video conferencing. The call centre can be accessed by dialling 1100 and the extension 247. 

The centre has been outsourced to a firm in T. Nagar. It will be manned by 138 operators. The operator will forward the complaint or grievance to a first level officer of the concerned department via SMS, email and telephone. The complainant will receive messages which will include the complaint reference number. On its first day, the centre received close to 2000 calls. The operators use computer telephony integration. If complaints are not sorted out, they will be transferred to senior officers. 

An official said, Being the first day, the centre received about 2,000 calls, mostly from Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts in 60 types of complaints including those related to revenue and municipal bodies. The operators can attend 15,000 calls a day. In due course, more personnel will be engaged if required.
