Test runs between the section Koyambedu-Shenoy Nagar in the Chennai Metro Rail Project is scheduled for next month.
After the tests, approval will be obtained from the Railway Safety Department during April.
Chennai Metro Rail project is under progress in 2 corridors over a total length of 45 km. Out of the Metro Rail will be operating underground covering 19 railway stations over a distance of 24 km.
The first underground track testing is scheduled to be conducted during the 2nd week of February in the above section.
Chennai Metro rail officials informed the total underground distance covered by Chennai Metro Rail Project is 24 km. Work is under progress. Tunneling work has been completed for the section between Koyambedu-Egmore.
As a 1st phase of trial runs, test runs are being conducted by rail engine run on the underground section between Koyambedu & Shenoy Nagar.
The full test run along with the coaches is scheduled for 2nd week of February.Tests will continue to be conducted on the tracks, signal installation activities, safety elements, and Railway Stations.
After this, test results will be submitted as a report to the Railway Safety Department to obtain approval for regular runs.
Similar test runs are scheduled for the section between Aalandur-Parangimalai (Officers Training Academy)- Chennai Airport is scheduled to be conducted during end February.
Approval from the railway Safety Department for this section will be obtained by end April for regular runs.
