Rs. 10 coins to be issued for B. R. Ambedkars 125th birth anniversary

The Reserve Bank of India will commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar by issuing Rs. 10 coins. The Government of India has minted Rs 10 coins to commemorate the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar which the Reserve Bank will shortly put into circulation, said the bank in an official statement. 

The obverse of the coin will bear the Lion symbol of the Ashoka Pillar. The will be in the centre of the coin and the words Satyamev Jayate will be inscribed below it. The left periphery will have the word Bharat inscribed in the Devanagari script. The right periphery will have the word India inscribed in English. 

It (the coin) shall also bear the Rupee symbol and denominational value 10 in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol. On the reverse, the coin will bear the portrait of Ambedkar in the centre, 125th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF Dr B R AMBEDKAR in English on the lower periphery, said RBI. The coin will carry the year 2015 written in the international numerals below the portrait of Ambedkar. RBI said the coins are legal tender as provided in The Coinage Act 2011. The existing coins in this denomination would continue to be legal tender.
