According to CMRL sources, trial runs are likely to begin in the month of May. The CMRL line between Thirumangalam and Shenoy Nagar is completed by 50 percent. Works to electrify between Koyambedu and Shenoy Nagar via Thirumangalam is on the go. This is likely to get over by April end. On completing this, signaling works will be carried out. Following this, trial runs will take place, said a senior CMRL official. Track works between Shenoy Nagar and Nehru Park is taking place now. By April, these tracks laying works will be over and electrification process will begin, the official added.
Sources stated that the electrification process between Koyambedu and Thirumangalam ramp, and Thirumangalam to Shenoy Nagar will get over by April.
There will be one more station at Thirumangalam. One of the residents in Anna Nagar west stated that he will not be using this route, but it may be of help for IT employees living there. Depending on the rate at which these track laying, electrification, signaling, and inspection are done, the trial run on stretch of Washermanpet to Chennai airport will take place.
To note, a trial run was carried out between Thirumangalam ramp and Anna Nagar in October 2015 with the help of diesel locomotive.
