A Finnish company Wartsila Oyj has launched a remote monitoring system in Velacherry in Chennai to monitor over six power plants in India and to ensure their proper functioning.

The RMS unit in Chennai is monitoring seven installations in India including one in Sriperumbudur and one in Ramanathapuram. The unit also monitors two installations in Indonesia, one in Thailand and one in Australia.

James Rajan, vice president of Wartsila India and managing director, Wartsila Lanka said, Data is being monitored real-time and we can alert our clients before a feeder reaches tripping point. We have many parameters we look into like the temperature of the lubricating oil, exhaust gases, water and pressure. Theoretically, this station in Chennai has the capability of monitoring all of our power plants. But we are currently monitoring only seven gas-based power plants.
