There are 350 flying squads to prevent distribution of money to the voters by political parties in the forthcoming state assembly elections.
Daily checks and raids are being conducted and unaccounted money and materials are being seized. So far Rs 8 Crores has been seized. There are complaints that businessmen are badly affected because of these raids and checks. So it was requested that the electoral officer should permit a certain amount to be carried for the business transactions. So far the Election Commission was silent about this.
At this juncture, TN Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni has mentioned, Flying squad check will be intensified. There is a complaint that small businessmen are affected due to vehicle check. Hence it would be permitted to carry Rs 1 Lakhs. The announcement will be made soon with regard to this. If the money above Rs 1 Lakhs is confisticated, it will be returned in 24 hours after getting proper explanation. If Rs 5 Lakhs or more is confisticated, the money will be returned after 3 days after making proper enquiry.
