Now, Rs 30,000 health cover for domestic servants

Now, your domestic servant is also enjoy the benefits of a health cover with the Union Cabinet on Thursday clearing an annual insurance of Rs 30,000. And, you will only need to help her in getting a registration since the government will pay the annual premium of Rs 750. 

The health insurance cover, available to domestic workers in the 18-59 age bracket, will offer benefits similar to yours with each beneficiary entitled to cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals anywhere in the country. This can be done with the help of a smart card that would be issued to those covered under the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), which is now expected to cover around 47.5 lakh workers. Information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni said majority of the beneficiaries would be women. 

The beneficiaries will have to get identification certificates from two of the four eligible institutions - employer, residents welfare association, registered trade union or the local police. 

The scheme is expected to cost the Centre around Rs 30 crore during the current financial year, with the spending projected to rise to over Rs 74 crore in the next financial year.
