As the Thermal Power Station at Tuticorin has been beset with breakdowns, power generation is down. This might lead to the prospect of power-cut in the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
Tuticorin Thermal Power Station has got 5 units of 210 MW each for a total of 1050 MW power generation.
However, there have been frequent breakdowns in one unit after another in recent times seriously affecting power generation.
The 1st unit was shut down on 25th March for repair work. It was rectified and power generation was resumed yesterday (29th March). However, there was another failure and the unit had to be shut down again.
The officials are engaged full swing in the repair work. Unit 2 had been shut down earlier for repair work. Coupled with 2 units failing, the prospects of power cut in south districts looms large.
