Complaints regarding call drops while speaking on mobiles were coming in large numbers. Telecom Regulatory who examined these complaints said that every call drop should be compensated with Rs 1. So per day three calls should be compensated. This was to be implemented from 1st January. The telecom operators have challenged the Delhi High Court order upholding TRAI`s decision making it mandatory for them to compensate subscribers for call drops from this January. In between Telenor company offered free call for every call drops.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi appearing for Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), before a bench of justices Kurian Joseph and R F Nariman said,  Telecom companies never took any decision regarding call drops. Telenor company said that it will offer free calls subject to certain conditions. We have to safeguard the interest of 100 crores of subscribers. Hence we recommended that every call drop should be compensated with a  free call. They said that this was not possible. If the tele companies  agree that there will be no stipulations of any kind and they are ready to give free calls for every call drops to the consumers, then we are open to looking into our regulations penalizing them.
