Chennai Police Commissioner: 406 polling booths in Chennai in tense category

As per the unexpected sensational transfer order issued by the Election Commission, the Chennai City Police Commissioner T K Rajendran was transferred and the new Police Commissioner Ashutosh Shukla took over yesterday (Monday, 2nd May).

The new police commissioner gave an interview to the press reporters immediately after assuming office. A brief on this interview:

It has been analysed that 406 polling booths out of the 16 Chennai City Legislative constituencies are of the tense category where calm proceedings cannot be guaranteed.

18 companies from Central Police Protection Force have been deployed for election security activities.

All precautionary safety arrangements have been organised to ensure fair and free election.

Mr. Shailendra Babu, who took over as the DGP of Law and Order Department and the new DGP K P Mahendran conducted a meeting on the security arrangements to be made for the election.

Tamil Nadu Election Commissioner, Mr. Rajesh Lakhani, informed that around 30000 para-military force will be deployed to take charge of the security arrangements for election in Tamil Nadu.

As all possible precautionary safety measures have been taken, it is expected that the elections will be conducted peacefully sans any violence.
