Voting starts today at 7.00 AM for the 234 constituencies in 66607 polling booths.ndian Election Commission has announced that the election for the Aravakkurichi constituency in Karur District will be held on 23rd May.

However, from the day this announcement was made, several complaints were received that cash and gift articles were being distributed in a large way in the Aravakurichi constituency in Karur district.
The election commission deployed 3 checking squads, 6 flying squads and 2 video monitoring squads in the area.
An official from the department of central revenue was appointed as the election expense observer.
It was also found that hard cash was being transferred from this place to several other places.
Many opposition parties demanded that an enquiry must be conducted about this.
So far, 33 complaints have been registered regarding cash distribution on the internet.
When reviewing all the above incidents, it was established that hard cash and gift items were distributed to the voters in Aravakkurichi constituency.
As this confirmed that the prevailing situation was not right for conducting a free and fair election, the date of election for this constituency had to be postponed. Thus, the election for Aravakkurichi constituency has been postponed to 23rd May from 16th May.
The sitting MLA K C Palanisamy (DMK) and AIADMK`s former Transport Minister Senthil Balaji are contesting here.
K Kalaiarasan (MDMK), M Bhaskaran (PMK). K Arvind (Namm Thamizhar), and C S Prabhu (IJK) are also contesting.
