The Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections in the 232 constituencies were held in a peaceful manner. Counting of votes will take place on 19th May. For this purpose 3236 tables have been arranged. In 219 constituencies 14 tables will be used for each round. In 9 constituencies 10 tables have been arranged for each round. In 2 constituencies 12 tables will be used for each round and for another 3 constituencies 20 tables will be used for counting. For another 1 constituency 24 tables have been setup.
For the first time, the votes will be counted at 8 am. The postal votes will be counted first and the results will be announced. At this juncture public interest litigation was filed in the Madras High Court by Law Panchayat Movement. The Movement has mentioned that counting of votes should take place on 25th.
The Election Commission had postponed the polling in the Aravakurichi and Thanjavur Assembly Constituency in Tamil Nadu on from May 16 to 23. Counting of votes in these constituencies will take place on 25th May.
