Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has mentioned that it will come out with a consultation paper on internet-based telephone service in a month. After the advent of smartphones, speaking on using various apps like Skype, WhatsApp and Viber is increasing. At the same time these apps cannot be used within India. At this juncture, BSNL has announced a new offer for its customers. BSNL has introduced a new app. Through the app, BSNL customers travelling abroad will be able to connect their landlines through mobile and make calls without attracting heavy ISD charges.
Recently, telecom industry body has objected to application-based calling service of state-run BSNL saying it is violates present norms. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Chairman R S Sharma has mentioned, We are bringing out consultation paper soon on internet telephony. It is a matter of weeks...a month. The paper will explore framework for internet telephony in present context.
