Deepavali train tickets reservations opened on Saturday morning in Chennai.
As part of it, ticket seekers approaching the counters would be videographed in an attempt to identify touts, who frequent the Computerised Passenger Reservation System.
Passengers hope that the new system will help to curb the black market ticket selling.
The city houses eight CPRS centres at various locations, including Moore Market Complex, Egmore, Mambalam, Mylapore, Anna Nagar, Besant Nagar and Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus at Koyambedu.
The Railway Police Force has formed 15 special teams, each comprising seven members, including commercial branch staff from the railways, to monitor the CPRS centres. The teams would regularise the queue as early as 5 am on Saturday.
