The Internet and Mobile Association of India has stated that online trading for up to Rs 2 lakh crore will take place by the end of this year. Between December 2011 and December 2015, the sector has seen 30 percent growth. During those days, trading for Rs 1,25,732 had taken place. Of these, 63 percent of the trading were done for online ticketing. Domestic air tickets, rail ticket and all sorts of transportation related advance bookings are likely to grow by 40 percent and attain trading of Rs 1,22,815 by end of this year.
In December 2015, online hotel booking had grown to Rs 5,200 crore. The growth with railway ticket advance booking is 34 percent and accounts to Rs 21,708. Likewise online purchase of apparels, footwear, etc have seen doubled growth. Movie ticket booking, taxi online booking, etc have also seen potential growth. Hence, by the end of this year, the total trading amount is expected to double up to Rs 2 lakh crore, according to IAMAI sources.
