Immediately after the project of the bullet train between Mumbai-Ahmadabad, the news is that the next bullet train will be between Delhi and Kolkata.

Indian Railways have commissioned a firm which has asserted that a bullet train corridor will cut down the travelling time between Delhi and Kolkata to just five hours.

Currently, the fastest train between Delhi and Kolkata, Rajdhani Express, takes 17 hours.

This is a part of the Diamond Quadrilateral project that aims to connect all the four metros of India (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai) by high-speed rail network.

The feasibility study covers the whole of 1,513 km long Delhi-Kolkata train route. The estimated cost for this proposed plan is put at a staggering Rs. 84000 Crores.

The route will cover cities like Agra, Lucknow, Varanasi and Patna and once the corridor is commissioned, the travel time for these cities will also see a drastic decline. Lucknow will be a 1 hour 45 minute journey from Delhi whereas Varanasi will be reached in just 2 hours 45 minutes.
And Delhi to Kolkata will take 5 hours.
