Japanese technology to help build flyovers in the city

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency, or JICA, has been roped in to help with advanced technology to build bridges and flyovers in the city. The decision has been made after many proposals to reduce traffic congestion in the city by building the structures have failed to take off. The failure has been attributed to a fund crunch.
A meeting to make the deal took place on Monday. Following this, JICA may fund bridges and flyovers in congested parts of the city. Speaking about this, an official from the Greater Chennai Corporation said, The engineers from Japan have suggested new technology to reduce cost, noise pollution and damage to buildings in congested neighbourhoods during the construction of flyovers and bridges.
The alternative technology will benefit people living in areas such as T. Nagar, Kotturpuram, K.K. Nagar and Nungambakkam, while the construction of the flyovers are underway. During public consultations, some of the major concerns voiced by residents were noise pollution and damage to buildings in the vicinity.
The planned flyovers will reduce congestion on places such as Usman Road, College Road, Sterling Road, Valluvar Kottam High Road Junction, Arcot Salai, K.K. Nagar 80 feet Road, Mandaveli Junction near Mandaveli Bus Stand Junction, Gandhi Mandapam Salai and Ponniamman Koil Salai junction, Kotturpuram.
