Chennai Metro rail fare likely to go up?

Chennai Metro has been operating the section between Koyambedu and Alandur on the elevated corridor since June last year.The maximum fare is Rs. 40/-.

In the next phase, the section between Little Mount (Chinnamalai) and Airport on the elevated corridor is getting ready for operation. Test runs are being conducted.

The Chennai Metro Rail Project Authorities are getting set to conduct the final stages of testing . The final stage of testing is scheduled to be completed next week. After this, the Safety Certificate has to be obtained from the Railway Safety Commissioner. Then, the decision to start the customer services will be decided.

The Metro Rail Project officials explained the section between Little Mount-Airport is progressing at full swing. The Railway Safety Commissioner has been invited to conduct safety tests. He will come and conduct the safety tests and then present a report. He will give the approval on safety and to start customer services.

It is expected that the safety clearance will be obtained by 1st week of August. After this, the date for starting customer services will be decided between the last week of August or the 1st week of September.

In this 2nd phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, some of the activities are yet to be completed in 1 or 2 stations. This is getting completed fast. The construction activities of the stations are progressing in various stages. They are being expedited for early completion.

An activity chart is prepared and the final test-run is scheduled shortly. The team of officials from Research Design and Organisation conducted tests in the section Little Mount-Airport and announced that the section is ready for commencing customer services.

The fare details for this 2nd phase is yet to be fixed. It is gathered that it may cost an additional Rs. 10/- for the maximum fare.

So, the fare for travel in the Metro Rail between Little Mount and Airport will be Rs. 50/- as the maximum fare.
