The service timings with Chennai Metro Rail might get extended as its service from Chennai Airport is likely to get connected with other parts of the city by end of August.
Sources with the Chennai Metro Rail project said that discussions are on the go to extend timings as the airport will have late night and early morning flights at the airport. Availing Metro Rail service around this time will hence be of help for the commuters.
It was during last June that the Chennai Metro Rail service between Koyambedu and Alandur was initiated. The first service was made at 6 am and continued till 10 pm.
On initiating metro service between little mount and Chennai airport in August, it is likely that the first train will be available at 4 am and last up to 11 pm. However, this will be possible only if there is enough patronage received, according to officials.
When this second stretch gets opened, it will be possible for the commuters to travel between Chennai and Koyambedu directly, covering 16km distance.
Fitness approval for this stretch is already sanctioned by the Research Design and Standards organization before a few weeks.
In the following week, the final round of inspection along the stretch will take place.
