Slum clearance board to construct apartments and individual houses across TN

Chief Minister Jayalalitha has announced that about 23,476 apartments and individual houses will be constructed across Tamil Nadu. This will be done with the aid of slum clearance board.
 
There are a number of schemes taking place in Tamil Nadu, aiming to provide houses to people of all categories. Especially, there are thousands of houses being constructed along the housing board.
 
According to statistical data in 2011, there are 14.63 lakh families residing in slums. In 12 corporations, 7.53 lakh families and 4.68 lakh families in 124 municipalities are living. On the whole, out of 528 towns analyzed, in about 328 towns, there are 2.42 lakh families residing.
 
There are a number of schemes being carried out by the slum clearance board. These are carried out under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, Housing for all, construction of new houses, 13th finance commission proposal, etc.
 
Amidst these, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalitha has signed the approval for constructing house for slums this year. She did the same yesterday. In a press release in this regard, it is stated that in Chennai and other cities, the slum clearance board has constructed about 59,023 apartments and individual houses in the past five years. Further, 3024 apartments and 7513 individual houses are also being constructed. This counts to a total of 10,537.
 
Jayalalitha has agreed construction of 23,476 apartments and individual houses this year. Out of this, 7204 apartments are to be constructed in Chennai, Tanjore, Trichy, Erode, Coimbatore, Pudhukottai, Namakkal, and Nagapattinam. For the deprived, about 16,272 houses will be constructed in towns in Chennai, Vellore, Hosur, Ranipet, Virudhunagar, Madurai, and a few more counting to 157. Each of the apartments will be constructed in 400 sq.ft area. This will include living room, bedroom, kitchen, balcony and bathroom. Individual houses will be constructed at 300 sq.ft area. They will be given with necessary aid for constructing houses for themselves. Required technical assistance will be provided by the Tamil Nadu slum clearance board. A sum of Rs 2.10 lakh will be given for construction.
