Almost 95 percent of smartphone users in India have got WhatsApp instant messaging platform installed in their phones. Here is a shocking info for all of you. This messaging platform will not be functional by end of 2016, according to statements given by WhatsApp itself.
It has announced that WhatsApp will not be supported on Symbian and Blackberry smartphones from 31st December 2016. Further, it will also not work on Nokia S40. The same is applicable to older smartphone operating systems on iOS, Windows and Apple. Though the announcement was made in the month of March this year, WhatsApp did not finalize a deadline for terminating their service. They have just done this now.
Those who use Android, Windows and iOS phones and those with Symbian or BBOS smartphones are likely to get affected. As the smartphones surpass feature phones from 2017, WhatsApp seems to have taken such a decision.
When Whatsapp is used in older smartphones and feature phones, there will be security threat as its security patches as well as updates will not be available. Third party developers will grab these versions and make use of them for functioning. It is however not recommended to use a third party application.
It is to be noted that WhatsApp had hinted about terminating its support in its blog in the month of February. WhatsApp messenger service will no longer be available on the following mobile platforms after 31st December 2016
- BlackBerry including its Blackberry 10 model
- Nokia Symbian S60
- Android 2.1 and 2.2
- Nokia S40
- iPhone 3GS or iOS6
- Windows Phone 7.1
Users may have to get their system upgraded to newer Androd, Windows or iPhone before the deadline announced so that they do not face any hindrance in using WhatsApp services.
