Further increase in pulse prices

The prices of pulses have en increasing steadily over the last 2 years due to drought conditions. As the festival season of the year is set to start from August, the Agriculture Production Market Association members inform that there would be a further increase in pulse prices.
They say that the price of Bengal-gram, currently selling at Rs. 220/- per kg, is likely to go up to Rs. 300/-. It is gathered that the pulse prices will vary depending on the quantity of arrival and the demand.
They inform that there is scope for reduction only for Green gram (Kerala) and the prices of other pulses are not likely to reduce.
They inform that due to the drought conditions prevailing in the last 2 years, the growth was less, and this year’s excessive rain damaged the crops. As production of pulses this year is less than last year, efforts are being undertaken to import from Australia, Canada, South Africa, and Myanmar.
