Commissioner of police imposes stringent rules for call taxi drivers

An advisory meeting took place between Chennai police officials and call taxi owners. This meeting was held at the conference hall of Chennai police commissioner office. Police commissioner D.K. Rajendran, additional commissioner Shankar (south), Abhaykumar Singh (transport), Joint commissioner Bhavaneeswary, joint commissioner of transportation, M. Dhurai, over 60 call taxi owners and representatives took part in the meet.
 
Excerpts from speech by commissioner D.K. Rajendran is as follows
 
It is mandatory to conduct background check of candidates through police officials before appointing them as call taxi drivers. The condition of cars used by call taxi companies, its ownership, etc also need to be verified. It is mandatory to fix GPS device in every call taxi.
 
The name of call taxi owner and his mobile number need to be displayed in a visible place inside the car. Owners need to have the permanent address and temporary address of drivers. All call taxi drivers should be given with a photo identity card. Drunk and drive should be strictly prohibited.
